U.S. jobless claims sink 13,000 to 239,000, but Puerto Rico still a sore spot

Initial jobless claims, a tool to measure U.S. layoffs, fell by 13,000 to 239,000 in the week ended Nov. 18. That’s below the 240,000 estimate of economists polled.

The more stable monthly average of claims rose 1,250 to 239,750, the government said Wednesday.

The number of people already collecting unemployment benefits, known as continuing claims, increased 36,000 to 1.9 million.
