Republicans to launch effort to reform Fed

A renewed effort by Republicans to reform the Federal Reserve will kick off next week. House Republicans have been pressing to reform the Fed since taking control of the chamber in 2010 but have yet to succeed in the face of opposition from Democrats and the Obama White House. This time might be different now that Republicans control the Senate and White House. The House Committee on oversight and government reform announced it will markup the Federal Reserve Transparency Act on Tuesday. The bill, introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, would allow the Government Accountability Office to audit the Fed’s deliberations or actions on monetary policy matters. Fed officials have opposed this legislation in the past, saying it would increase political pressure on the central bank. Only three of the 93 co-sponsors of the measures are Democrats. #Fed
