Higher gas prices boost inflation, squeeze paychecks in November, CPI finds

The consumer price index climbed 0.4% in November, matching the forecast. Three-quarters of the increase reflected higher gas prices.

The so-called core rate of inflation that strips out food and energy rose a smaller 0.1%.

The yearly rate of inflation as measured by the CPI rose to 2.2% from 2%. The more closely followed core rate fell a tick to 1.7%, however.
